Ready, Set, Reading!(“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a reading app for children, used by parents at home and by teachers in classrooms. This policy explains what information we collect through readysetreading.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Because our users include children, we've written this policy with parents, guardians, and school administrators as the primary audience — accounts for students are created and managed by an adult license holder, not by the child.
1. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information:the license holder's name and email address, used to create and manage a Parent Plan or Teacher Plan license.
- Student profiles:a first name or nickname chosen by the license holder for each student account, plus that student's lesson progress. We do not require a student's email address, date of birth, or any other directly identifying information to create a student profile.
- Learning and progress data:which lessons and exercises a student has completed, scores, and time spent, so progress can be tracked across sessions and shown on the license holder's dashboard.
- Voice recordings: short audio clips recorded during pronunciation exercises, captured only while a student is actively completing an exercise and used to score that attempt.
- Billing information: if you purchase a license, payment is processed by a third-party payment provider. We do not store full payment card numbers on our own servers.
- Usage data: standard technical data such as browser type, device type, and page views, collected automatically to keep the app reliable and secure.
2. How we use information
- To operate the reading curriculum: presenting lessons, scoring pronunciation attempts, and saving progress.
- To let a license holder manage their students, view progress, and add or remove student accounts.
- To process license purchases and renewals.
- To respond to support requests sent through our Contact page.
- To maintain the security, integrity, and performance of the app.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use student data to serve advertising.
3. How voice recordings are handled
Pronunciation exercises use automated speech recognition to score how closely a spoken attempt matches the expected word or phrase. Audio captured during an exercise is sent to our speech-recognition provider for transcription in order to generate that score, then discarded — we do not build a permanent audio library of student voices, and recordings are not used to train third-party models.
4. Children's privacy
Ready, Set, Reading!is designed to be used by children under adult supervision. Student accounts are created by a parent, guardian, or teacher acting as the license holder — a child does not sign up on their own, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child without a responsible adult first creating and controlling that student's profile.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has a student profile you did not create or authorize, or you would like a student profile reviewed, updated, or deleted, contact us using the details in Contact us below.
5. School and classroom use
When Ready, Set, Reading! is used under a Teacher Plan license, the license holder (typically a teacher or school administrator) is responsible for obtaining any consent required by their school or district before creating student profiles, and for complying with applicable education-privacy laws. We act as a service provider to the school for the limited purpose of operating the curriculum and reporting progress back to that license holder — student data is not used for any other purpose.
6. Third-party service providers
We rely on a small number of service providers to operate Ready, Set, Reading!, each of whom processes data on our behalf under their own security and confidentiality commitments:
- Application hosting and delivery of the website and app.
- A database and authentication provider for accounts, licenses, and progress storage.
- A speech-recognition provider for scoring pronunciation exercises, as described above.
- A payment processor for license purchases and renewals.
7. Data retention
We retain account, license, and progress data for as long as a license is active and for a reasonable period afterward in case the license holder renews. License holders can request deletion of a student's profile and associated progress data at any time; voice recordings are not retained beyond the scoring described in Section 3.
8. Data security
We use industry-standard safeguards — including encrypted connections and access-controlled databases — to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep information appropriately protected.
9. Your choices and rights
License holders can update or remove a student profile from their dashboard at any time. You may also contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with your account, subject to applicable law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify license holders directly.
